Scoring Methodology

SafeHavenGuide uses a directional fit model. Scores are planning signals, not legal, immigration, tax, healthcare, financial, or safety advice.

How scores are calculated

The app calculates factor scores for each country, multiplies those factor scores by the user's selected weights, applies region and exclusion adjustments, then ranks countries by the resulting 0-100 score.

Affordability

Blends country cost assumptions with the user's household size and approximate net monthly income.

Default weight: 9/10

Visa feasibility

Starts from a country visa-readiness score and adjusts for remote work, self-employment, retirement, and age signals.

Default weight: 8/10

Personal safety

Uses the country safety score as a national planning signal that must be validated at city and neighborhood level.

Default weight: 9/10

Identity fit

Uses broad inclusion and safety signals, with optional sensitive fields only when the user opts in.

Default weight: 7/10

Family and kids

Blends family fit, schools, safety, and the user's children/schooling needs.

Default weight: 6/10

Healthcare

Represents healthcare access and quality as a planning signal, not medical advice.

Default weight: 7/10

Political stability

Measures broad governance and stability fit for relocation planning.

Default weight: 6/10

Language ease

Adjusts the country language score based on the user's tolerance for learning a new language.

Default weight: 5/10

Climate fit

Compares warm-climate score with the user's climate preference.

Default weight: 4/10

Internet and work

Blends internet score with timezone overlap for US-based remote workers.

Default weight: 5/10

Tax friendliness

Directional planning signal that requires professional tax review before action.

Long-term path

Directional score for long-term residency/planning feasibility.

Evidence freshness

Country pages show source links and review status. Items marked as needing review should be validated against official government sources before a user acts on them.

Every country is broken into regions you can compare across fit, cost, climate, healthcare, schools, language, and density — with real, imported places (airports, hospitals, transit hubs, and universities) mapped on the interactive live map. Every country gets the same full treatment, and we add more countries every month.
